London Marathon 2023 – Fundraising appeal

I will be trying to survive the 2023 TCS London Marathon on Sunday 23 April, and while I suffer through it and enjoy the pain and atmosphere, I am also raising money for a worthy cause.

The fundraising is progressivist decently well, with a mix of supporters and personal contributions. I am supporting Barnardo’s, the UK’s premier charity looking after abused and disadvantaged kids in a society that becomes more unequal every year.

I found the passion for running late in life and started with C25K later in life than most, in my mid 30s with about a year and a half to go before COVID decided to stop our ability to enjoy community events, group runs, parkrun and organised races. But I had caught the bug. I am an eminently average runner - i am slow with my 5K PB just below 25mins, but i enjoy it immensely and it keeps me sane. I enjoy the routine, I enjoy the way improvements can be quantified and tracked, I enjoy the challenge and competition it can unleash and how, as a middle of the pack runner, it is mostly against myself.
